The following works within this portfolio are made from plaster and grouting tools on a wooden panel to create an intentional peaceful environment. Each work is reflective of the artist’s hand and process; a viewer can note where the trowel swept through plaster and where it stopped in order to create each composition. Keeping the grouted lines exposed creates a dramatic sense of movement through its texture. In addition, the use of these construction materials serves to venerate my Mexican heritage and the immigrant story of my parents who are also labor workers. My parents have used these same tools to create a livelihood for myself and my siblings. Each work uses a variety of mixed media from plaster, coffee grinds, and housepaints in a variety of sizes.
