This piece pays tribute to Monica Curiel’s Mexican heritage. As a first-generation Mexican American with immigrant parents from Jalisco, Mexico, Monica was deeply influenced by the rich cultural traditions of her ancestors. The textured layers are inspired by the iconic vestments worn by mariachi musicians, a style of music that originated in Jalisco and holds a special place in Monica’s heart.

The name ‘Mari’ is a nod to the mariachi culture that played a pivotal role in her upbringing, and serves as a reminder of the beauty and vibrancy of regional Mexican traditions.
