Mended Self is reflective of Latin American artisans and their woven works or “costuras” like her sister painting Me, Interwoven in our last collection. It touches upon the journey of self-discovery and self-love. This work is made from plaster, paints, and coffee to achieve its pigmentation. The use of braided and broken texture excites a sense of touch and tangibility. This response is intentional and is made to help a viewer have an awareness of the present moment. The works in this collection aim to have the artist's hand and creative process transparent to the viewer, helping one understand how the work was created.
This work is a part of the Monica Curiel x Shop Jitana Collection.
