This work represents the many Mexicans who have died at the Texas/Mexico border, in hopes of providing themselves a better life. I chose to paint white crosses because white crosses are a prevalent symbol of an individual’s death in Mexico. I want this work to also offer an outward sign of peace, a symbol of immigrant freedom. As I see children being separated from their families at the border and humans trapped in cages, it is the only way I can say, I honor you, I see you, and there still is an opportunity here in America.
