Inspired by contemporary draping in garment construction, Chiqui translates pleat and fold into spackling paste and plaster, drawing from Curiel’s time alongside her parents on construction sites to use industrial materials to form structures that read as soft or garment-like while holding the histories embedded within them and challenging assumptions about the presence of cloth or fabric in their formation.
